Installing Ipython 3.6 with Yum on Centos 7

If you're looking to get up and running with ipython 3.6 on a CentOS 7 system but find it missing from the default yum repositories, don't worry! There are still two viable ways forward.
Method 1: Compiling Python 3.6 from Source
Before diving into this method, ensure that you've got all necessary dependencies installed:
### Step 1 - Install Base Packages
First off, we need to install some basic packages via `yum`:
```bash
sudo yum install -y libffi-devel openssl-devel gcc make zlib-devel bzip2-devel \
wget curl git patch autoconf automake flex byacc readline-devel \
glib2-devel system-release-tools libjpeg-turbo-devel \

```
### Step 2 - Download and Extract Python Source
Next up, we'll download the source code for Python 3.6:

wget https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.6/Python-3.6.tgz
tar xvf Python-3.6.tgz && cd Python-3.6/
```
### Step 3 - Configure and Build
Now it's time to configure, build, and install:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/python36 \
--with-gcc=g++-4.8 --enable-fortran \
--with-openssl=\/usr/lib64/\
&& make -j $(echo $((`nproc` * 2 / `cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model name' | wc -l`) + 1)) \

### Step 4 - Set up Alternatives
Finally, we need to set Python3 and python alternatives:
```bash
alternatives --set python /usr/local/python36/bin/python-3.6
alternatives --set pip /usr/local/python36/bin/pip-3.6
echo 'export PATH='/usr/local/python36/bin:$PATH'' >> ~/
.profile
source ~/.profile && which -a python
```
Method 2: Using a Third-party Repository
Alternatively, if you'd rather not mess around with compiling from source (and who can blame you?), there are third-party repositories available that offer pre-built packages for CentOS.
### Step remi's Python 3.6 repository
One such option is the 'remi' repository maintained by Remi:
1. Add the following repo to your `/etc/yum.repos.d/` directory:

sudo tee /tmp/remi.repo << EOF > /etc/yum.repsodoryo/'centos-7-python36'
name=CentOS 6 - python3.6 (remi)

### Step Install Ipython 3.6
Finally, you can now install ipython:
```bash
sudo pip-3.6 --upgrade --user --ignore-installed \
'pip==18.2a0'
&& echo 'export PATH='/home//.local/bin:$PATH'' >> ~/ .profile
source ~/.profile
ipython3 -V
```
And that's it! You should now have ipython 3.6 up and running on your CentOS system.
